Job Title:  Development Engineer (Ref. No.017818)
Department: South Eastern Applied Materials (SEAM) Research Centre, Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford 
Duration:   24 months (Full Time)
Commencement Date: Immediately
Reporting to: SEAM Centre Manager


The Role:

Develop Engineering solutions for wide ranging industrial sectors viz., Medical Devices, Precision Engineering, Aerospace, Pharma, etc.,

Identify new materials/manufacturing technologies applicable to existing and potential new SEAM clients

Identifying and working on suitable European project proposals relating to Centre activities

Support SEAM staff in Failure Analysis work and writing proposals for various funding agencies

Assist SEAM Centre Director in growing the centre’s business activities

 

Person Specification:

Academic Qualifications

Essential

Masters in Mechanical / Industrial / Materials Engineering or other closely related field

Desirable

Ph.D in Mechanical / Industrial / Materials Engineering or other closely related field

Experience:

Essential

Proven diagnostic / analytical  experience in materials or mechanical Engineering field

Desirable

2-3 experience in a relevant R&D or engineering environment

1-2 Experience in CAD / Finite   Element Modelling

Some level of experience in  writing proposals for funding agencies

Specific knowledge and skills:

Essential

Problem solving skills and good grasp of engineering principles

Diligent recording of outputs of work activity

Desirable

Project Management skills

Good understanding of materials characterisation techniques

Demonstrated capability in the working/handling of  analytical equipment (viz, SEM, CMM, interferometer, etc.)

I.T. Skills:

Essential

Ability to use data analysis software

Desirable

Some level of proficiency in the use of social media for business purpose

Specific Personal Qualities:

Essential

Good communication and Presentation skills.

Ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a wider team.

Good interpersonal skills

 

Salary:40K-45K per annum depending on qualification and experience
